The Vestry of St. Bernard's Episcopal Church has created a non-profit foundation to maintain and preserve The Ancient Spanish Monastery. We know it is an architectural treasure and it is one of Miami's best kept secrets! We want to get the word out to historians, teachers, artists, museum curators, civic leaders and all those in Miami-Dade who care about preserving our heritage and historical sites for future generations.
Here's how you can help. Since you are a member of St. Bernard's, you already know the beauty and history of this place. We are looking for two people in our community who are not members of the parish to serve on the Foundation's Board of Directors. We are looking for individuals who would be willing to work on fundraising and community events to call attention to the Monastery as one of the area's unique attractions. As you already know the Monastery is on the National Register of Historic Sites and we belong to the Dade Heritage Trust and the Partnership of Sacred Places. We hope our Foundation will stand alongside these organizations with the focus on the unique 800-year-old history and architecture of the Cloisters of the Ancient Spanish Monastery.
In 1953 TIME magazine called the Monastery "history's biggest jigsaw puzzle" and chronicled our connection with William Randolph Hearst. We are looking for two individuals to work on our board to help us take our place alongside Vizcaya, the Deering Estate, and the Venetian Pool as one of the area's unique attractions that needs to be maintained and preserved.
In order to help with the search for two people in our community to serve on our board, we're asking you to forward the attached application to your friends and colleagues who might be interested. The application is in PDF format above.
Thanks for all you do for St. Bernard's.
Faithfully,
Dr. Janie Greeleaf, Foundation President
